Meet BCC Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay Beloved Community Circle meets, practices, and engages on both sides of Tampa Bay, in the still-beautiful state of Florida, home of the Seminole and Miccosukee people, the panther, egret, live oak and alligator. We alternate our monthly meetings between Tampa and St. Petersburg, We are currently nine, and all of us are members of the Florida Community of Mindfulness. Our members have all practiced together for years, and we know and love one another very well. We grew out of the broader Florida Earth Holder Community, and formed as a Beloved Community Circle about 18 months ago, with the loving encouragement and support of John Bell.
We always begin our meetings with meditation and then a weather report: each of us opens our hearts to share what we are seeing and feeling about the state of Mother Earth, and what we have been doing to protect her. We tend to engage individually, rather than as a group, in various local and regional efforts, including support of local governments to commit to increased solar energy, protection of wildlife and green spaces, animal rights, electoral activism and active participation in local environmental organizations such as Food & Water Watch, Third Act and community gardens and Sierra Clubs, and we energize and support one another as needed. Above all, we try to share as broadly as we can the understanding that we are are all connected, that we are the Earth and the Earth is us.
